Heal Faster. Swell Less. Recover With Confidence.

Post-Surgical Lymphatic Drainage in Frisco, TX

Surgery is a trauma to your body — even when it goes perfectly. What happens in the days and weeks after your procedure determines how well, how quickly, and how comfortably you recover. Specialized post-surgical lymphatic drainage is one of the most powerful tools available to support that process — and it is exactly what Heather Gall LMT specializes in.

Why Your Body Swells After Surgery — And Why It Matters

When surgical trauma occurs, your body immediately triggers an inflammatory response — flooding the surrounding tissue with fluid, immune cells, and repair proteins. This is a normal and necessary part of healing. But your lymphatic vessels, which are responsible for clearing that fluid, are often disrupted, compressed, or overwhelmed by the volume of post-operative fluid they are asked to manage.

The result is visible swelling, bruising, tightness, and discomfort that can persist for weeks or months if the fluid is not actively moved out of the tissue.

More critically, when post-operative fluid stagnates for too long, the proteins in that fluid can begin to polymerize — hardening into fibrous tissue. This process, called fibrosis, creates the firm, uneven, sometimes painful internal scarring that many post-surgical patients experience. Once fibrosis sets in, it is significantly harder to address.

This is why timing matters. Early, appropriate lymphatic drainage — performed by a trained therapist who understands post-surgical anatomy — can help prevent fibrosis before it begins, accelerate the reabsorption of bruising, reduce swelling measurably, and make your entire recovery more comfortable and more complete.

What Post-Surgical Lymphatic Drainage Actually Does

Post-surgical MLD is not a standard massage. It requires a completely different approach — calibrated specifically to the sensitivity, vulnerability, and healing priorities of post-operative tissue.

Heather uses an extremely gentle, precise, rhythmic technique that works with your body's natural lymphatic pathways to:

Reduce swelling by moving excess interstitial fluid (the fluid trapped between your cells) back into the lymphatic vessels and toward your body's drainage nodes

Accelerate bruising reabsorption by encouraging the metabolic byproducts of damaged tissue to enter the lymphatic system and be processed out of the body

Prevent and soften fibrosis by keeping post-operative fluid moving before it has the chance to harden into fibrous tissue — and by gently working areas where early fibrosis has begun

Support immune function at the surgical site by improving the circulation of lymphocytes (your immune cells) through the area

Calm the nervous system — reducing the stress response that can constrict lymphatic vessels and slow healing

The pressure used is deliberately feather-light. This is not because the work is passive — it is because the lymphatic capillaries that do the actual drainage work sit just 1–2mm beneath the skin's surface and respond only to gentle, specific stimulation. Deeper pressure actually collapses these vessels and stops drainage.

Surgeries That Benefit From Post-Surgical Lymphatic Drainage

Heather has supported clients recovering from a wide range of surgical procedures, including:

Cosmetic & reconstructive surgery — BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift), tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), liposuction, breast augmentation or reduction, mastopexy, rhinoplasty, and facelift
Cancer-related surgery — mastectomy, lumpectomy, lymph node removal, and related reconstructive procedures
Orthopedic surgery — knee replacement, hip replacement, rotator cuff repair, and other joint procedures
Abdominal surgery — hysterectomy, C-section, hernia repair, and similar procedures
General surgery recovery — any procedure that has resulted in significant swelling, bruising, or slow healing

If you have had a procedure not listed here and are wondering whether post-surgical MLD could help, please reach out. Heather is happy to discuss your specific situation before you book.

When Should You Begin Post-Surgical Lymphatic Drainage?

Timing depends on your specific procedure and your surgeon's clearance. As a general guide:

24–72 hours post-op — Some procedures (particularly liposuction and BBL) benefit from drainage beginning within the first few days, once your surgeon approves. Early intervention produces the most dramatic results for these procedures.

1–2 weeks post-op — For most cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries, this is a common and effective window to begin, once initial wound healing has stabilized.

2–6 weeks post-op — Still highly beneficial for reducing residual swelling, softening early fibrosis, and supporting the later stages of healing.

Beyond 6 weeks — MLD can still be valuable, particularly for addressing fibrosis, scar tissue mobility, and lingering swelling or discomfort.

Always follow your surgeon's specific instructions. Heather works collaboratively within the parameters your surgical team has established and will never work in a way that conflicts with your medical care.

Your First Post-Surgical Session — What to Expect

When you arrive, Heather will begin with a thorough intake conversation — understanding your procedure, your timeline, your surgeon's instructions, any areas of concern, and how your body is responding so far. This conversation shapes every decision made during your session.

You will be comfortably positioned on the treatment table, with only the area being worked gently uncovered. The touch is extraordinarily light — many post-surgical clients are surprised and relieved by how comfortable and gentle the work feels even over recently operated areas.

During the session you may notice a gentle warmth moving through the tissue, a sense of fluid shifting, or simply deep relaxation. Many clients report feeling noticeably less tight and more comfortable immediately after their first session.

Heather will close every session with specific post-care guidance — hydration, movement, compression recommendations, and what to watch for — so your body continues to drain effectively in the hours after your appointment.

How many sessions will you need? This varies based on the procedure, how much swelling is present, and how your body responds. Most post-surgical clients benefit most from a series of sessions — often 3 to 6 in the first few weeks, tapering as healing progresses. Heather will give you an honest, personalized recommendation after your first session.
