Your First Lymphatic Drainage Session: What to Wear and What to Expect

First visits come with a lot of unknowns, so let's walk through exactly what your first appointment will look like, start to finish.

Before You Arrive

There's no special prep required. Come as you are — no need to fast, hydrate excessively, or change your routine beforehand. If you can, arrive a few minutes early to fill out your intake form if you haven't completed it online ahead of time.

What to Wear

Comfortable, loose clothing is ideal. Depending on the area we're focusing on, you will undress and get under a sheet and a blanket (the same as a standard massage) as I need to work directly on the skin. Loose, comfortable clothing helps keep lymph flowing well after session.‍ ‍

What Happens During Intake

‍We'll go over your health history, why you're booking, and any areas you'd like to focus on. This is also the time to mention any of the health conditions covered in last week's post — better to flag it here than mid-session.

What the Session Feels Like

Sessions begin at the neck and collarbone and move with the lymphatic pathways of the body in a systematic flow, working with the way the lymphatic system moves in the body. The pressure is light and rhythmic throughout — many first-timers are surprised by how gentle it is. Most people find it deeply relaxing, and it's common to feel sleepy or very calm during and afterward.

After Your Session

‍Drink some water, and don't be surprised if you need the restroom more than usual over the next few hours — that's a normal response as fluid moves through your system. Some people feel immediately lighter; others notice changes more gradually over the following day.

‍ ‍

This is general information, not medical advice. Always share your full health history at intake so your session can be tailored appropriately.
